IRISH CROCHET LACE WORKSHOP 🪡🧶🧵
8th May 2026
A very special experience for the kids today......we unravelled the story of Irish crochet lace - crafted by some of the poorest in Ireland for some of the richest in Europe.
The workshop was delivered by a very gifted Mary Butler. She delved into the development of Irish lace focusing on the years after An Gorta Mór, the Great Famine, when communities around Ireland clung to life quite literally by a thread.
The children came away with a real understading of how resilient and enterprising the women of the irish lace industry were.
